How to Create a Winning Mindset, to Crush the Competition

As an entrepreneur, you probably have a strand in your DNA that tells you to go out and crush the day for all it is worth. This mindset sets you apart and is absolutely essential to your success.

But this little seed of an idea will not germinate without a little maintenance. The best entrepreneurs know that they have to cultivate this “crush” mindset every day, whether at home or in the office, in the car, at the gym or in the bathtub. This is the mantra on which I have built my whole business.

So, as the founder of this company, which teaches people to cultivate their purpose, their passion and their productivity, to find a work-life balance, I would like to offer my best advice on how to use all of your day to cultivate your winning mindset.

1. Absorb inspiration.

You have to read, watch and listen, to soak up all the inspiration you can from the world around you. “Reading can offer richer, broader and more complex models of experience that allow people to see their own lives in a fresh perspective and with renewed understanding,” said Josie Billington of the University of Liverpool, who is an expert on the effects of reading.

2. Hit the treadmill.

Staying in shape keeps you physically and mentally lively. It helps you look better, feel stronger and be more confident. (Plus, it always helps in a competitive meeting when you know you can pass the guy on the other side of the conference table.) Whether you go to the gym before work, during your lunch break, or after you close the shop, it’s important to get at least 30 minutes of physical exercise a day.

LikendisLike Josh Steimle makes it a point to prioritize exercise over business – knowing that it will help his business in the long run. “I plan my workouts during the work day and prioritize exercise over all of my work activities,” says Steiml. “There is some flexibility, but if there is a conflict between a track race I need to get in and a meeting with a client, I will first reschedule the client’s meeting.

“I do this because I and my business can survive the consequences of rescheduling a client meeting, even if it means losing that client. But as soon as I start postponing workouts, I start missing sessions and once I start missing workouts, I’m about to stop training altogether. ”

3. Be this child.

In his book State of mind: the new psychology of success, developmental psychologist Carol Dweck describes how children respond to challenges. In her studies, she posed a series of increasingly difficult puzzles to her young participants and found surprising answers. A boy “lifted his chair, rubbed his hands, hit his lips and exclaimed:” I love a challenge! »»

I bet this kid turns out to be the top performer in his class – and probably an entrepreneur. All major entrepreneurs share the desire to take up a challenge. It gives us a chance to show off our skills and creativity.

4. Get yourself a “growing mindset”.

Dweck also found that mindsets can be classified as “growth” or “fixed”. People with a fixed mindset believe that their talents and traits are fundamentally immutable, while people with a growth mindset believe that their talents can be cultivated with effort.

I have always aimed for the growth mindset, and I am a much more versatile businessman for that. This mindset helped me to see challenges as opportunities, to turn criticism into fuel and to be inspired by the success of others.

5. Celebrate and move on.

You can keep your frame of mind strong, even when you are outside of “working hours”. The key is to celebrate what went well during the day. Be grateful, even if you only got a small victory. Studies support the idea that rewards are essential for resetting, cropping and preparing for the next day. Celebrate in any way you feel best, whether it’s going to the movies with your kids, opening a bottle of wine, or just patting your back.

Then let go of all the shitty moments that happened that day. Just as you would advise your favorite sports team, don’t let a bad game derail the whole game. Focus on the present. Next game. Pass.

Only your state of mind will determine how high you rise above the peloton. When your competitors are tired or stuck in a rut, it’s your state of mind that will help you keep going – pushing harder so you can live to crush another day.
